2018 Stone Dwellers Shiraz

2018 Stone Dwellers Shiraz

Stone Dwellers is a range of wines grown on select regional vineyards that are made to showcase the best varietal examples from the Strathbogie Ranges each vintage. Fowles’ family vineyards rest amidst the ancient granite boulders of the Strathbogie Ranges. Cloudless days and cool nights allow our grapes to gradually develop intense aromas and flavours. Our ‘hands-off’ winemaking philosophy lets our wines express the true personality of varieties from this region, every vintage.

  • Vintage Conditions

2018 was an early and fast ripening season. We picked our shiraz blocks in early March which was 2-3 weeks ahead of normal years. This early season means we had to allow sugar levels to get relatively high before we achieved the fruit flavour ripeness we like to see.

  • Wine Making

The majority of this wine (70%) was matured for sixteen months using new mostly (90%) French and the remainder in American oak. A small amount (20%) was mature for fourteen months in old French oak.

  • Color, Nose and Palate

    Vibrant red with purple hues.

Dark berries and blood plums meld with subtle oak, black pepper and chocolate.

Dark red fruits, savoury spiced oak and pepper with a subtle nutmeg spice to finish.
